I was watching the latest episode of Lost last night and I was struck by how cool a game you could make, just based on what they've shown so far. In fact, the island and the stories they've told on it, remind me of the old fashion adventure games of yore...
I'm going to do my best not to give anything away, but consider it. The story starts with you crashed on an island with the fellow survivors of your flight. You quickly learn the island has secrets of its own, but then again, so do the other passengers. Who can you trust? Why does it seem like everyone's past is inexorably tied to this island? Who are the others? What is the island?
These types of mysteries are exactly what made the old Lucas Arts and Sierra adventure games so great, you know? The cast is the perfect ensemble of archetypes for a video game and their flashblacks give you plenty of opportunity for lateral gameplay or kick-ass cinemtics (depending on your take). And then there is the island itself, talk about your perfect adventure game setting! Confined, remote, but large enough to be mysterious...
*sigh* I miss the old adventure games, especially when I watch a show like Lost. At least the artform of the staged plot reveal is still alive and well in Television; I thought for sure Reality TV would stamp it out completely.

Speaking of Lost...
If you have a DS play Lost in Blue! The game is a combination of some very tactile and immersive UI (via the microphone and stylus) and a "traditional" RPG. In pitch-speak I'd describe it as "Ico meets Harvest Moon meets Lost" with a grin on my face. I was sold the first time I had to start a fire, that's how well integrated the stylus UI is.

couldent agree with you more
couldent agree with you more snipe, theres very few of those fantastic adventure games i havent played (that were third person, i hate the first person ones with a passion, mist riven ect)
What a great idea!
Admittedly, I've been thinking this since I myself got that first fire going. The real 'What is this all about; what's coming up next?' adventure game seemed almost gone completely until I picked up Lost in Blue, it's pretty cool. (though my latest kick is 'Under The Knife', that game rules the DS too, If only I could figure out how to do this last Triti patient...)
Incidentally .. I talked to someone at LucasArts recently, good ol LA and their adventure games..
