Rhode Island Would Own 38 Studios' IP if it Defaults on Loan

Residents of Rhode Island can take solace in the fact that if 38 Studios were to fail today it would own the rights to the studios' current and future intellectual properties: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and its MMO "Project Copernicus." All future revenues from both titles would also go towards paying down the debt too - you know, the $75 million bond plus the interest through 2020.

Respawn Will Not Be Attending E3 Next Month

Indie Royale Announces the All-Charity Pack

GameStop: Physical Retail Numbers Down, Digital and Pre-Owned Up in Q1

Blizzard Issues an Apology for Diablo III Server Problems

Blizzard has issued an apology to all the players all over the world that suffered through trying to log onto Battle.net to play Diablo III over the last few days. The company says that they have been humbled by players and by the gargantuan task of trying to keep Battle.net servers up and running as millions of people (many in vain) attempted to play the game. As of now, they say everything is stable and players should have no problems logging in.

West and Zampella court case happening in Los Angeles today has been furiously tweeting various scoops via his Twitter account. Among the revelations are that Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Elihu Berle has denied Activision's motion to postpone the case for an additional thirty days. The trail will begin as scheduled on May 29.

Move Over Gaikai and OnLive, Taiwan's Ubitus Wants to Enter U.S. Market

Islamists in Northern Mali Burn TV Sets Used to Play and Watch 'Un-Islamic' Entertainment

The Associated Press reports that residents in the Northern city of Gao in Mali are not happy after Islamists smashed television sets used to play video games and watch television shows that were considered "un-Islamic." The effort was intended to show residents that they are under Shariah law there. The Islamist fighters took up a strong position in the northern part of the Northeastern African country after they were they pushed back by Malian government troops in March.

Comcast: Xfinity on Xbox Live a 'Cable Service,' Does Not Violate Net Neutrality Rules

In a post on the official Comcast blog, Tony Werner (Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, in Network and Operations) says that his company's video-on-demand service on Xbox Live, Xfinity, in no way violates net neutrality rules. In fact, he claims, the service is not an Internet service at all but a cable service served up using cable resources and not internet bandwidth.

VSC Clarifies New PEGI Ratings Guidelines, Penalties for UK

The Video Standards Council (VSC) issued a press release today announcing details on how the PEGI ratings system will work in the United Kingdom when it replaces the current ratings system used in the region to rate video game content. The VSC said that it issued the statement today to provide "greater clarity" on how their position as the new UK regulator for video games will affect future video game regulations in the country.

Fifty U.S. Legal Scholars Urge the Senate to Review ACTA

Fifty legal scholars in the United States have written an open letter to the Senate urging them to use their rights under Article I of the Constitution to force the Obama Administration to submit the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) to Congress from approval. Under the U.S. Constitution the Senate must approve all International treaties before they can be signed by the United States government.
